10 samples were analyzed in this experiment. Exponentially growing human lung epithelial cells (1.5x10^5 cells) were cultured in 6-well cell culture plates. When the cells were approximately 70% confluent, they were treated with crystalline silica (0 or 200 µg/ml) in serum-free medium. Following 2 hours of culturing at 37oC, total RNA was isolated for gene expression studies.
