Top BLASTx hits were considered as the putative A. thaliana orthologs (Additional file ). These hits were mapped to the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. A total of 15 unique, enriched KEGGs were identified (Table  and Additional file ). The KEGG pathways provided insight into potential biological pathways that function in the corollas of pollinated flowers. For example, eight of the KEGGs were involved in metabolism, including carbohydrate, energy, and lipid metabolism as well as the metabolism of terpenoids and polyketides.
