[…] For the metrics that differed between species in the principal component analysis, we further investigated biologically relevant variables. Because our forest position metrics (distance from forest edge, forest height, and canopy cover) and nest size measurements (nest size and prey capture height) were highly correlated, we evaluated only distance from forest edge and nest size here. We used ANOVA and the DTK test to compare the nest size, and the Kruskal-Wallis test and a posthoc test (equivalent to the Tukey test) to compare the distance from the forest edge across the five species. In order to determine whether the habitat positions of the species were independent of phylogenetic relationships, we estimated the divergence time of the five species using published sequence data for cytochrome c oxidase subunit I and NADH dehydrogenase subunit I mitochondrial genes using the neighbour joining method in Mega 4.1 .
