In complement of traditional techniques such as functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT) is emerging as a low-cost and portable method for non-invasive cerebral imaging. Based on the measurement of diffuse near-infrared light attenuation through the scalp, skull and brain, DOT assesses local optical absorption due essentially to the concentrations in oxy- and deoxy-hemoglobin.
