Super resolution imaging and microscopy is a set of technics and methods that aim to improve bioimaging resolution at the nanometer scale beyond the diffraction limit. Super resolution microscopy methods fall in two main groups: Deterministic super-resolution, where the non-linear response of fluorophore is exploited to enhance resolution, and stochastic super-resolution, where temporal behaviour of complex molecular light sources is exploited. Most notable technics and methods include stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy, reversible saturable optical linear fluorescence transitions (RESOLFT), photo-activated localization microscopy (PALM) and more. Super-resolution imaging software tool are used for image pre-processing and processing, dynamic analysis, structural analysis and advanced fluorescence microscopy analysis (FLIM, FCS, FRET, FRAP).
